It's uttered softly, his gaze by turns curious and anxious. Why is he looking at him that way? He's not sure what it means, but it sends a shiver through him like a spark set to his spine.
As before the good manners are rewarded, nails gliding along the nape of his neck. "We did. We were...peers. associates working to a mutually beneficial goal."
He shifts to step behind isaac, hands setting against his hips, chin tucked over his shoulder. "Focus on your work, Isaac. And when you finish, I'll give you another file."
Isaac trembles slightly but holds himself still. He doesn't need to fall to pieces now, he wants to show him how good he can be. So there's some sense of needing to arrest that nervous energy, hold it in check while Delta shifts in against him. It feels--
"Thank you."
It seems to be the right answer, and he does. He turns his attention back to his work and flies through it, aware of Delta's eyes on him all the while.
"You're doing well. Very well." Delta's voice remains soft, but it has warmed considerably with...affection? Perhaps. "I'm proud of you. this is a remarkable recovery."
Watching how far he's come in so short a time? It is remarkable.
"You've nearly lost your legs. Being able to walk at all is better than I'd expected, let alone so soon." Isaac has cine a long way from that weak, bitter laughter. "I'm pleased with your progress. So should you be."
It's clear he expects more of himself. But he lets it drop, simply nodding and returning focus to his task, until the last pieces of code slide smoothly into place, and he secures the file shut with a dismissive wave of his hand.
"It'll come in time. You're already far ahead of where I thought you might be." not enough to be worrysome but- enough to be a pleasant surprise. It's the easiest, simplest thing in the world to turn his head and brush his lips against Isaac's cheek- so he does. "Well done. The next file's in the queue. All you have to do is pull it up with this command-"
He reaches past Isaac to type it in, demonstrating and surrounding him simultaneously.
Isaac stares at Delta for a moment. Did he just? Yes, yes he did. And maybe that explains the look. 'Associates' seems more and more like a cover, but will it do any good to press? He doesn't want to drive him off, after all.
So he nods. "Right, yeah. Like this..." And he mimics the gesture before looking back to Delta, Delta's mouth, and then meeting his gaze again in question.
"Very good-" It's simple enough when one knows how and demonstrating that to a broken system- the Alpha had never been able to recover. Had been wrecked beyond all hope for repair.
Isaac is better- either more or less broken enough to be able to function as requested. The look earns a faint licking of Delta's lips, a thoughtful pause. "...I am forgetting myself. I apologize."
With great care he steps away, hands slipping to clasp at the small of his back in parade rest.
"No, no it's alright." The words come spilling out quickly. A little too quickly, and he blanches before shaking his head and returning his focus to the code. Be cooler than that, Isaac.
"I mean, I've got this. Child's play. You're not...distracting or anything."
Victimless deatils. Even if Isaac looks curious and crushed all in one go. "No, I...I don't remember. I'm sorry. But we can start again, can't we? Clean slate and all of that."
"I can accept being forgotten if it means I have you like this rather than the unstable, corrupt thing you had become." Lighter. Kinder, perhaps. Maybe even sweeter but only time will tell. But this is wholly sincere on his part- he's glad to be forgotten.
It gives him the opportunity to step forward and cradle Isaac's jaw, eyes bright and warm and intent. "...If it is no imposition-"
He feels like he ought to remember something, some scrap of it, but nothing remains. It's been scrubbed clean, so all he has are present details. Delta saved him. Delta is keeping him safe, and appreciates his work, and wants him to get better. Delta is cradling his jaw and moving in like he wants to kiss him.
He's been so alone in here. For ages, it feels like. And Isaac's shoulders drop. "It'd be an imposition if you stopped, maybe."
There's a flicker of amusement in Delta's eyes, perhaps a hint of recognition. Scraps of the personality he once found unbearable coming to the fore to prevent Isaac from being completely predictable. Not that this isn't a pleasant version of him but...
Some of that spark will make the overall game enjoyable."If you insist-"
Voice almost playful he leans in, leans down, sealing their lips together. Pulling Isaac's slim body tight against his and oh how fascinating it is to be the larger, more powerful one for a change.
Isaac's eyes fan shut, lashes pressed flush to his cheeks as he shifts in, rising up onto the balls of his feet if need be. The sensation is stranger for an AI, a weird mesh of code that nonetheless strikes all the right chords. Something like 'pleasure' or 'desire' as an artificial construct can experience it.
If you know where to look it's easy to reach in and light up those lines of code. The trick is doing it without catching the other AI offguard and Delta? Intends to take his time to light up every one of those lines with a steady press of his lips, hands smoothing through his hair to hold him close.
It leaves him wondering what they really were, but that's not the important thing.
He's been alone. Starved of contact and conversation and now he has things to do. A purpose, a plan, and Delta rewarding him so very sweetly for it. Isaac sinks into his hands all too willingly, making a faint noise in the back of his throat as he returns the kiss, reaches to return the favor.
Seems fair, right? Delta's making him feel good, and he knows he can do that.
Antagonistic occasional lovers via the bodies they cohabited with other minds entirely. York likely had a more succinct way of putting things but for now? 'Close' will have to be vague enough to suffice.
Is, in fact, enough to let him set aside the usual expectations when tangling with Felix and instead enjoy the differences here. The lack of teeth, the pliancy, the sweetness. The reciprocity done out of something more than pride.
Delta leans into it, shivering faintly at the stroke of Isaac's hand, greatly pleased by this turn of events. At his catching on with every twist of his hand and stroke of code, intent on leaving Isaac panting.

His teeth grind together for a moment in frustration.
"Like remembering how to walk when you know you can run circles around most people. I can do more."

For so many reasons if only because 'as they were' wasn't terribly kind to one another. But. Details.
